25-30% Job Cuts in India

update: 31st Oct, 2008 - Industries association Assocham has withdrawn its controversial report forecasting 25-30 per cent job cuts.

The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) has said that Indian companies are faced with shrinking margins and are likely to cut 25% to 30% of its work force. Employees in businesses like IT, aviation, steel, financial services, real estate, cement and construction would be part of this cost-cutting measure.

Large job cuts typically became major political issues in India recently, and it’ll be quiet interesting to see how the government tackles this issue if the predicted job cuts happen
