Free email; are they reliable?

A couple of days back, Gmail (free email from Google) went down for some users and while trying to log in, they were greeted with an uber descriptive error message “Temporary Error (502)”. This outage lasted for an hour, after which the problem has been resolved by Gmail engineers. Users cant blame google for this, since it is still in Beta :)

Here arises the question of whether to switch over from free emails to a paid hosted email or an email within ones own domain name. Though it seems to be a good idea; you’ll have to depend again on your hosting solution provider, and if you you can find a email hosting with 99.99% uptime, then you can opt for it, and this is vital because your mails are more important than anything else.

I was also suffered with the same problem. But obviously we can email Google and report this, I guess they are aware and working on it. If this happen continuously, then try deleting all our google cookies and try again. Corrupt cookies can potentially cause this problem too.
